I first met Markus in 6th grade. We had Mrs. Casey's class together. I liked him. I think most people did. He was good natured and was generally fun to be around.

Markus had a magic trick he could do, that involved making a penny disappear. It was actually very cool. But he would only do it once at a time - obviously to prevent people from figuring out how he did it.

After 6th grade, Markus and I had little contact with each other.

One of the funniest things was when Ms. Koeppe made her morning announcements, and had to call Markus's name for some reason. Hearing her struggle was a blast. "Would Markus Pet-ka-vee-see-us please come to the office."

I remember sitting next to Markus in the high school's computer lab one day. For whatever reason, he could not stop using the word "bogus." Everything - seriously, EVERYTHING was bogus. Not a sentence came from his mouth without the use of the word.

By the time we graudated, Markus had let his hair grow very long. I think he had a moustache as well. Actually, he looked like one of the Doobie Brothers - or even an early 1980's gay porn star.

Markus' senior sweatshirt was adorned with the word "Vytautaus." Apparently there was an explanation as to what the hell that meant. But I wasn't privy to it.

I believe Markus's friends were people like Mike "call me Bruce/don't call me Bruce" Schroeder and Scott Stephens.

After high school, Markus had planned to get involved in broadcasting - perhaps TV or radio. He certainly looked like a DJ. I don't know if he ever fulfilled those dreams though. I do know that he has had a few minor skirmishes with the law - once for possession of THC. He's also gotten married, and has at least one child. Last I knew, he was stil living in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area, where I believe he is working at a factory.

UPDATE - 7/20/06 - Markus is currently separated from his wife, and has been for about a year. He's now back living in Two Rivers. He recently broke his ankle. He said it was after a night of heavy drinking. On July 15th, Kevin Dehne and I stopped in to see him. The pictures are below.

UPDATE - 11/22/06 - Here is some video from that July 15th visit.

I don't remember anything real specific about Markus, but I always liked him...he was always nice.

Your description of him looking like a porn star cracked me up...he did look like he could have been! But why a "gay" porn star vs. a heterosexual porn star? Funny. Doobie brother fits too.

Ah, that could be. His dad's name was Vito. And Markus' middle name did in fact start with a "V." Perhaps Vito was short for that name. Good insight.

Markus was a really good guy. We hung out a bit, and talked computers. We both mourned the day they stopped manufacturing the Commodore 64!!

Markus lives in TR, his daughter's in High School, and is in the band. My brother sees her every day. I think he said she's nice.

I ran into Markus twice in the last few years. Once was at Dr. Freud's. He told me to get "Toxicity" by System of a Down, which turned out to be a profoundly life-changing experience. Thanks cabbage!

His job involves computer programming or networking or something.

i think markus was an adult b4 he got out of HS. just the kind of person who was completely done w/childhood b4 society & age would let him be. he was cool; was very much impressed w/him (which i am w/anyone who seems comfortable in their own skin under crappy circumstances....like, say, uh, high school).

Markus and his boys were masters of the Ouija board. Stroufie, you remember a little of that, don't you?

I used to work with Markus and Mark Henrickson at Hardee's (along with the rest - Gus, Carrie, etc). Anyway, we used to goof around whenever the "managers" weren't looking. I remember one time when Markus and a few others drew pictures of "private parts" all over the place with the red crayons that were used for marking food. Of course, we wiped the pictures away before anyone got busted.
